Courting New Friends

We can court new friends just like we court romantic partners. It’s not easy to make good friends as adults, given how busy, physically isolated, and distracted everyone is these days. So when we find someone we want to befriend, court them. Make an effort to connect. Ask them on platonic “dates” to events or to do something active. Not in a weird or awkward way, but in an honest, transparent, and genuine way. Also, just like in romantic dating, we shouldn’t try to make 20 high-quality friends at once. It’s better to find and develop one or two close friendships at a time, tops. Choose them wisely and court them intentionally.
